personal interests community mentoring foreign exchange
In 1994, I teamed up with two other adults to chaperone four Waldport High School students on a five week foreign exchange
program with the Liebnitz Gymnasium in Bad Schwartau, Germany, outside the beautiful Hanseatic city of Lubeck.
My fifteen year-old son, Wyatt, was one of the students who took advantage of this great opportunity to live with a German family,
learn the language and culture, and travel all over northern Germany.
The year before, we had hosted Nadine Stolle, a senior from the gymnasium, who lived in nearby Sereetz.
The Stolles, in turn, were perfect hosts to me on this exchange visit and they still hold a special place in my heart.
After this visit, we were able to host Arne Untermann, one of Wyatt's host's sons, in Oregon.
